I have a 03 alero and I am going to replace my current stock system with one of the upper systems with tape/CD/XM ready units. The radio is coming from a 03 Alero also. Anyway, I was looking in my GM service manual and it says when switching radio's between cars, you must use a Tech II scanner to program the Class 2 data bus radio the current cars VIN # because "Theftlock" is already set to the 1st cars VIN. So that means once I Install the new radio it will be locked and I will have to take it to the dealer to have them set the theftlock to my cars VIN. Is there anyway around this? It looks like if there were a shortcut, it would be in the service manual, and thats all it says to do when switching radios.... Any help would be great.. Thanks

nope, thats about it... thats why i had to buy a Tech II directly from GM for doing their warranty radio program.....

a lot of the 03 and newer vehicles are even worse, you have to do SPS uploads and downloads to set up the radio.....
