I'm looking for an amplifier putting out around 1000-1200 watts RMS power (at either 1 or 4 ohms) into 1 channel.
So far, the best I've seen in my price range are offered by
Memphis
Orion
Precision Power
I know Precision Power and Orion are owned by the same company, but which (if any) is the better choice/higher end model?
How does Memphis stack up against PPI and Orion?
Any other brands I should look into?

Orion is usually reguarded as the better of the two. It's kina like trying to compare a Lincon to a Jaguar (Both owned by Ford) Both are high end, just one is a little higher-end than the other.

BTW, i love my PPI amp.

I would say any of these would be a good choice. All 3 make good products. As far as which is better, I'm sure you will get several different opinions on that.

Are Phoenix Gold or Hifonics comparable to those three brands,   or are they in a different league?

i would probably buy a phoenix gold Ti amp over any other company, even if its not the 'best' the components, and eq have been great additions to my system and i wouldnt be afraid of putting more phoenix gold into the car.

Phoenix Gold is also ranked in the top as far as amp manufacturers go. I've owned 2 PG amps and actually, I liked them more than my PPI amp.
