Reprogram the tach wire but make sure that you wait at least 10 minutes after it has started to ensure the lowest RPM at idle.

From p. 49 of the manual,
1. Ign off, press and HOLD the Valet button
2. Ign on and the off (still HOLDING)
3. Release Valet button
4. Press and release Valet button. Look at LED:
Flashes   Reason
1        Timed out
2        Over revved
3        Low (or no) RPM
4        Trans shutdown
6        H3/3 or H3/4 (hood pin or brakeswitch)
7        NSS
8        Wait-to-start timed out
Jeff is guessing (and I think he's probably right) that it'll be 3 flashes.

When learning idle, put the car in gear and the RPM's usually drop to around the lowest spot the car would normally idle. Saves you from having to wait the 10 minutes.

You'll probably come up with "over rev protection" for a diagnostic code. Make sure you are using an injector for tach signal. Rev the engine to about 1800 RPM's and learn tach at that point. Learning the tach signal at a lower rpm will make things worse for you.

Depends on the car. He says he's having problems when it's cold-- I've only owned two cars in my life, and one of them would idle low when cold, the other high...

I just installed a valet on my 00 f150 and everything has been fine so far. I connected the tach wire to the injector harness like Velocity told me and did the learn procedure at startup.

That's the PATS kicking in and out. Did you use a universal bypass for the truck ?
