If this was so easy to achieve and there was any demand for it, don't you think it would be available aftermarket? Also if you do anything that makes your car easier to steal then you are an idiot. Don't tell me your homemade immobilizer can't be defeated because most manufacturer's immobilizers can be defeated relatively easy.

Well, you will get a momentary button. I was thinking of doing it like this..press to start, then press to stop, bur only shut off when they car is in Park. Or if you have a stick, maybe when the e-brake is up.  You might need to wire it, so you have to hold down the button, because when you turn ur key to accessories, the starter module will send a signal to ur starter, which actually rotates your engine 3 revolutions to get it going, cuz its cold. So im thinking with the button, you will need to hold down a few secs, because you need to give the starter time to do its job.

As far as wiring goes:

To relay momentary button- Starter BLACK/ White Ignition Switch Harness

Ignition BLACK/ Yellow Ignition Switch Harness

                                                   Accessory Yellow/ Ignition Switch Harness

As far as your wheel lock, you will have to convert to electronical if its mechanical...didnt figure out this problem yet.

Thanks for all your reply's.

>>You probably don't want to count on the transponder to keep the ignition on beyond starting the car. The ignition will need to be sustained while you are driving, and you don't want that to be at the mercy of a transponder being in proximity. Also, don't forget that you'll also need a reliable way to turn the car off!<<

Yes - that's very true - dont want the car turning off on me.

Well instead of the transponder +ve going to one side of a relay coil with the contacts going to the ignition. The +ve could go to another relay arrangement (or some electronics) which when pulsed stays energised till the system is reset. This resetting of the system would turn the car off permanently.

How do real keyless systems work? I had a hire car which was keyless. I think if the engine is on and u go out of range (maybe if you throw the key out the window) the engine turns off after 10seconds. I think thats what the chap told me.

What home made immobiliser? My new car soon to be delivered comes with a factory fitted immobiliser - which I wish it did not because I have to spend money on a by-pass kit now.

Never really been concerned about someone nicking the car - U think people would steal a Polo Volkswagen? They might want the stereo. As for defeating the system - if the person stealing my car saw the bypass-kit he would just open it up and have the car key! - LOL.

For me car security is not an issue.

The way I see it every thief knows all new cars come with immobiliser as standard. Only a professional thief who knew how to defeat the system would attempt to steal it in the first place. They know exactly what system the car has. They attack my car they might get a bit confused finding the systems been altered.

My solution was to remove the steering lock - and thats the end of that story. I really dont have money to add security features. I took the steering lock off my old car. It lived for ten years without a steering lock. It still outside my house. I wish someone would steal it - a bus hit it recently and now it must be scrapped.

Has anyone taken a look at that link of that transponder?

Do you think its good?

Do you know of any other models?

well if you use an electronic wheel lock, you can do a setup where the car wont start unless the transponder also unlock the wheel. and also it has to sense that the alarm key is inside the car.
