"It's hot with the ignition and stay hot." This wire stays on and goes out afterwards, it has a timer on it. Meter it, it should go out after a period. "I ended up using the timer instead of the glow plug wire." Did you switch it back to glow plug setting? If you did it shouldn't start until the glow plug goes out. I am no familar with you starter unit, so I am not sure if it does it automatically. Double check your setting again.     Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.
