Situation:
wife starts car (2000 pontiac grand am) with remote starter (3 weeks old)
I get in car, use the spare key in the ignition, move it back about 2 feet (So I can open the garage)
When I try to turn the car off, it won't go all the way back to the OFF position!
Now, the SECURITY light is on
My key is stuck in the ignition
Car won't start (or crank) with key or remote starter
Tried disconnecting battery, didn't work.
Help?

sounds like you triggered the passlock security or have a broken key cylinder.  if passlock has been tripped you need to reprogram the reistance of the keys---you need key out of cylinder first.  i had a monte carlo's key cylinder go bad while i was working on it and it did the whole not moving thing.
If you say "I already know how", don't ask me a single question.

Are you sure you didn't leave it in gear? My g/f car did the same thing. She turned it off while it was still in drive. The key wouldn't come out and of course, the car wouldn't start with it in gear.

Now that I think about it, it wasn't still in drive; there was something blocking it from going all the way in park. I had to force it into park. It may not be your problem, but I did have the same exact problems as you do.

well, i'm not sure what you did, but it sounds like you have tried to pull the key out before pushing the stick all the way to the front, (park), this is  a common problem with this tipe of gear selector, and what it does, is to damage the tumblers inside the cilinder,.

if you can turned the key to the run position, (do not crank the car), and uncover the bottom part of the colum, (2 or 3 screws), you will se that there is a  little hole that you can poke an pulled the cilinder out, then you are going to have to take it to a locksmith shop and have it rekey, then it will be only a matter of putting  it back.

(if you take it out, do not move anithing inside, and when you put it back, tunr the key in the same position as it came out, and turn the cilinder to the off position).

if it works, let me know, or if you have further questions e- mail me to ponchsmart@hotmail.com.
