This is my first alarm/remote start install.  It is on a 1998 S-10 truck and the alarm is a Scytek Galaxy 5000RS 2-Way.  I have connected all wires according to the diagram on this site (cross-referenced with a few other wiring charts).

When I try to remote start the truck, it chirps 3 times and tells my remote that the truck didn't start.  The truck doesn't turn over or anything??

If I hot wire the truck, it starts, but keeps turning over if I leave the starter wire (Yellow, 18 Guage wire) hot.

Please, someone help me!  I do not know what I am doing, but would love to understand how this works!

Did you have the motor side and key side of the starter disable relay switched around ? Check to make sure that the wire from pin 87a is going to the motor side not switch side.

Good job Velocity...you must've pointed out my problem...I do not have a starter disable relay connected.  Do I need this connected for the remote start to work?

I starter disable relay is optional. If you didn't install it, then this isn't your problem. I am not familiar with this particular alarm, but I would check for a nuetral safety wire that needs to see ground in order to start. My alarm will do the same thing if it sees the hood is open or it doesn't see a ground going to the nuetral safety wire. I'm not sure if the 1998 s10 needs an immobilizer, but the other guys seem to be pretty sure. If it started by hot wiring it; I don't think you need one. Check for these safeties first.

I'll have to check that out...I see one here that is a + Brake Input.  It says it is a safety shutdown wire (and as I read it, I realize it says it MUST be connected)...probably my problem.  I'll check it out shortly.  Thanks!

It looks like Dar_ds69 beat me to the post. I would follow what he said. Usually the brake would be the problem if it sees 12volts when trying to start. On most alarms, the alarm shuts down when it sees 12 volts coming from the brake pedal switch. When you hotwired the car, you probably had the key in the on position, I'm assuming. That is probably why you car would start. Put the key in the ignition and see if it remote starts. Also, my remote start will not work if you didn't program it to learn the tach. I would still check and make sure you have all the safety switches hooked up correctly first, but if your car does need an immobilizer, you might as well order one.
