Well my mom has a Neon SXT, probably 3-4 years old and the system in it is very good for a factory. Most songs you can feel and some songs rattle the mirrors.

Well i guess my question is: What kind of stuff are they putting in cars today and how can i find out what it is? I dont really know anything about systems(i did wire a cd player up today though so that got me interested) but i'd like to learn. Also, would i beable to add a subwoofer and maybe upgrade the speakers with the factory HU and whatever else there might be inside because i wouldnt mind making some cheap minor improvements.

I really just want to know why it sounds so good for being a factory and if i can work with that to improve it.

Also, most important, where can i learn the wiring, set-up, and knowledge for car stereos? I know its not that hard but there seems to be so much to learn and while i like this forum it would be easy to read a guide on a website with info on what to do.

Sorry if this question is dumb, and when I say "good" i mean compared to other factory units I have heard.

Whell, ,the fact is they don't sound good....but they sound better than what your used to listening to i guess.  If i were to demo a song in my truck,,then step into your car and listen to the same song i would cringe at the crappy sound lol.  Im glad you like it tho.

Sounds like you caught the car audio bug...get ready to wear out your wallet, because a stereo is never complete, there always will be an upgrade.

As for learning how to do this stuff, , just stick around and read up on the posts that intrest you on this forum....without this forum i would not be a professional installer, and i doubt i would have the stereo i have today.....i probably would have money in my bank actually...

Start a list of bookmarks on your computer under the heading "Car Audio".  As you read posts in this forum and see a link to anything, save it into your file.  Soon you will have a library of good information to turn to as you piece together the intricate audio world.  Some of these sources of information will at first be over your head, like http://www.bcae1.com/.  But over time you will read it enough that it will start putting things together for you and you'll refer to it time and time again like I do.  Other sources are easier, http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/S-MTYRdfext1f/learningcenter/car/.

Although there's probably not a soul on this forum who would agree that a Neon factory system sounds good, we would all agree that some audio is better than no audio at all.  Welcome to the world of it.  It only gets better!

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

depends on what you call good. personally i like to hear every part of a song extremely crisp with no distortion and i want people 8 blocks away to feel the rumble when im coming. <diff strokes-diff fokes>

Ain't THAT the truth... I just put two more BOXES of Dynamat Xtreme in my car today... 400 dollars please... Ch-ching! (Played hookie to do it, but it was a beautiful day in Bakersfield, and to quote Ferris Beuler - "How could I possibly be expected to go to work on a day like today")
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Dude, turn away now!!! Once you get addicted this stuff is worse than crack! I have never seen a drug addict spend as much money as most of us have on car audio. But I don't guess they would survive that for very long either.

I remember before I had my lisence or a car (when I was like 14 or 15) and I would crank the stereo on my moms car in the store parking lot while she was in shopping. I thought I was the shiz lol. After my first summer of working (when i was 13 going on 14 I think) I bought a big stereo for my room and I would sit in there with th ebass cranked up and imagine I was driving. Now that I actually have a good system looking back on that stuff makes me laugh.
