which setup would be louder?

i am going to be hooking up a temporary system in my car and was wondering which setup to go with. i will be using a viper four channel amp bridged into two channels pushing about 230w rms to each channel. i don't know whether to go with two subs (like an eclipse SW6100 series) or one dvc sub (like the SW7100 series). would the increased surface area of the two sub setup be louder than a single sub that can handle more watts and is a higher quality sub? which would give me better sq? 2005 Nissan Frontier - stock

Thats a good question.  I have heard 1 10" sub be louder that 2 12" subs.  When you want to get down to the basics,  it all depends on the box.  If the box is tuned specificially for that sub, then it will sound great.  But since your setup will be temp., then go with 2 subs.  If 2 heads are better than one,  then 2 subs are better than one.  Im pretty sure that there are others out there that will disagree with me.  And if at all possible, why not go to a audio shop and find out fot your self.1999 Chevy Lumina

Perhaps try going for Sound Quality instead of volume....the difference between two subs and one DVC subs is minimal, 3dB from memory, which is just noticeable volume increase. When you consider no top of that it will running off of a 4 channel amp that is designed to run front and read rear speakers primarly and asa sub amp second. Volume is not going to be great in either case...my suggestions is go for what sounds better, have a listen in store and then decide, I know that listening instore can be deceiving but it can at least give you a general idea of what will be happening.Check all advice given with a meter

If it is a temperary setup and you will be pulling it out later to put it into another vehicle, I would go with the single DVC sub. It is a better quility sub and will probably last you longer. You can always add more subs later(with a different amp of cource).

ya that's a real good point overworked2, volume probably wont be all that great either way. better to go quality over quantity, any recomendations? 12" dvc sub rms about 500w, i was leaning towards the SW7100 series from eclispe2005 Nissan Frontier - stock
