Well I have started to upgrade my current system, so I started with a new HU I got the Eclipse 5444, and I love it.  I know its last years model but I think the new look Eclipses are ugly.  Plus it was only 250 at CarToys.  Am I nuts in thinking that my current setup sounds alot better. My old HU was a kenwood deck 817.

This is what I am planning for the rest of my setup.

Componets:  Focal  6.5s- 165KP - yes the yellow kevlar ones.  I went and listened to the midrange ones but then heard these and I figured it was well worth saving up the extra money.  If anyone has any other suggestions Im open.

Amps: JL 500/1 for the sub , and either and Eclipse 4 ch or the JL 4 ch to power the rear fill and components.  The salesman who was the manager said that the eclipse would be a better choice for the 4ch amp.

Sub: 1 - 10 w6v2 or a Brahma 10 in a slotted box.

What do you guys think.  Its going to take a few months but I will finally have my school bill paid so I will have extra money, and from doing the listening like you guys preach made me realize it was worth saving up the extra money

An Eclipse HU will make any system sound better than it did with a Kenwood HU.  It's not your imagination.  :)
