If you use that expandable foam be very conservative with it, using too much in between panels will cause them to warp!
Only if you seal the panel before the foam is done completely expanding.
I have had good success using rubber undercoating in a can, $4 at home depot, combined with Great stuff Expanding Foam, $4 home depot.
As for the appearance issue, you can put th etrunk lining back on once the panels are done. Meaning it would look like a stock trunk.

I am also looking at buying deadening. I have a hatchback, and was wondering how many layers a hatch usually needs. I think i read somewhere that 2 is normal. Also how does eDead v1 se compare to Dynamat Extreme?

anyone?

depending on the deadener used i would recomend at least 2 layers. in a hatch be sure you do the whole car.the roof and floor should be your main concern. as for which is better i prefer dynamat but the difference acousticly is more than likely inaudible
