Go alpine, depending on what head unit you have, with the Alpine amp you can connect it via AI-link and control specific amp features right from the head unit. And alpine amps last for ever, I have personal experience with that fact.

I've blown 7 alpine amps, they don't last forever. I blew one 12" JBL subwoofer, thats the only one i've e ver blown by JBL. I've used many of their amps and i highly recommend them. Check out that BPX1200.1 crazy thing...

I doubt a mono alpine amp would have a s/n any better than the JBLs. JBL makes great amps.

Old school alpine is good (I own a 3523) but the newer stuff seems to be just O.K. If the JBL does the same job the alpine amp would for half the price, why not buy the JBL instead?

The alpines have a much better S/N rating than the JBL's, at least according to the spec's. The MRD-1005 is rated at 90DBA as where the JBL BPX1100.1 is rated at 67DBA.

Better yet are the MTX Thunder series amps, the 801D that I am running is rated at 100DBA.

I would probably never buy any alpine amp until they lower their prices. But I'd probably never buy a JBL amp either because they are too cheap.
