Ok guy's,

A quick question. I am running 2 MTX MZS1004 10" subs, T/S parrameters below. I have the downfiring currently with a 2.5" space between them and the trunk floor. The question is, will this hurt the subs? I really like the sound with them firing down and, since I use the trunk all the time, I don't have to worry about anything damaging the subs.

Adire has a formula posted for determining if a sub is OK for downfiring use.

Here's a link to the calculator you can save in favorites:  http://www.accelerator-pedal.com/sag.htm  The calculator was designed using the Adire formula kfr01 referred to.

That driver has only a 1% sag factor which is excellent for downfiring use.  Actually the lowest I've seen.   5% or below is acceptable.  Since it sounds good to you too, it seems that you've got a perfectly good installation.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

    Hey guy's,

Thnks to you both. Yeah, I am actually suprised as it is the cheaper line of MTX as well. Just put them in untill the New Brahama's come out. It will be another three weeks till we see those right?

And yes, that is a cool calculator, have it saved in my bookmarks.

And yeah, I was actually suprised as to how well they sound downfiring in the trunk. Every article that I have read regarding sub firing direction stated that downfiring in a trunk is bad. sh*t, sounds pretty damn good to me even if I have trunk open they still hit hard and clean inside the car.

Ok, well, on to the next project, Mid-Bass drivers and hand built crossovers.

those mzs subs really aren't different than the thunder line, just a different brand for circuit city usage.

Well, CC carries both the MXS And the MZS line, The MxS subs are supposed to be better than the MZS subs.

Besides, they are only gonna be in for a short while, I am working on the new design for the trunk which will include and all in one Downfiring sub box plus amp racks. And from there I will decide if I am gonna go with the new Brahamas or aset of infinity's.
