I got it done, used some vice grips in fact broke them.. luckly they were craftsman so I got a brand new pair, then I torched the hell out of them and loaded it up with solder, these connectors are never going to come off again

Thanks all

this is what i use when i'm in your situation.  you can either use a hamer or some kind of vice to power the crimper. it's a lot cheaper than a crimping tool that comes with all the dies and whatnot.  i found this one for 30 dollars.  i know snap-on makes one too.

Stinger also makes a great accessory for connecting 4g (part# scoup4) msrp $6.00 or 1/0g (part# scoup0) msrp $7.50.  These are basically barrel connectors with allen heads.  You might want to through some electrical tape around the terminal for extra protection against wear. Then slip on a some heat shrink tubing and you should be set.

for future reference,  vise grips are not crimpers and should never be used in place of a crimper.  as for solder, it is better than a vise grip crimp, but is still not as good as a crimp. i speak from experience as a construction electrician, and as far as the national electric code is concerned, soldering is not considered a permanent wiring method.
