I have a 790xv alarm (older 2 way remote starter), and just bought a replacement remote (479v) 2 way remote which is on the newer 791xv alarms. I'm having compatiablity issues programming it. I know it's possible but i dont' know how to do it. i followed the step by step instructions on the back of the remote package, but it's not working correctly. also i looked at the viper 790 and 791xv manuals, and no help there. can someone help me with a step by step to do this?

Dare is correct.  The instructions on the package works only when you are replacing  that remote for the same exact remote.
Do it right the first time
