Hello fellow 12Volter's,

I need a little input from you smart people here in the community. I am in the process of building a new system for my truck. There are many questions that i have that i need input on. My goal to have massive SPL and the vehicle is going to be a demo vehicle for US Amps so looks are important but i have that covered.

Ok first off i have a 2002 chevy trailblazer. Right now i am running 1 x PG Xenon 1200.1 pushing 4 x Alpine SWR-1242D's, and PG Xenon 100.4 Pushing 2 x SPR-17LS's.

This is what i want to do:

4 x 15" Kicker L7's in a ported box . Dual 2ohm subs. The subs facing the front of the vehicle. Question 1) I want the most SPL from these subs . According to kicker 6.0 Cu Ft per sub with a 4" port 12" long. Does this sound correct? Comments and suggestions appreciated.

Amp wise i am going to have 4 x US Amps AX1000 going to each sub. So 1000watts rms @ 1 ohm into each sub. I will have another US Amps running mids and highs (no comment needed on this one)

Ok people give me some input on my ideas.  I have not had alot of experiance with L7 or SPL i have always been a SQ person but now i want to move some air. Any other sub recommendations welcomed. Thanks ahead of time......

Kicker's recommendation would be OK, but you need a lot more port area for those subs, as you will get massive port whistle. Use any box building program (WinISD is my preference) and design a box depening on what you want.
Here is an old install i did with 2 15" L7s...

A bit more than recommended on airspace at 8 cubes each :D But the tuning was down to 28Hz at one point. Insane lows that cracked the windshield without flinching. Or do you want higher bass range, too?
Basicly, anything over about 5 cubes with those subs starts to take away from the higher (60HZ+)bass range, especialy in our 8 cubes... it had no volume and all distortion past 60Hz! But the low end was simply amazing.
So once again, it depends on if you want...
Insane low bass
A good range

Something like this http://www.crutchfield.com/S-2oKUfiqLxlg/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=745&I=495PNR4&search=ports wouldnt help the noise. You have given great amount of info. Thank you . One more wuestion though. i drive this vehicle almost everyday so i want some SQ but i want to hit a 160 too. Is this possible? Thanks

there isnt much that ISNT possible. One way you could do it is do SLOT ports instead of TUBE style ports. Just do a VERY large open port (say 15.5" X 5" per sub, giving 77 sq in of port per sub) then make an addapter plate that will slide into the existing port and cut the port area down and increase the depth, to say like 14" x 2"... that would be easy to do and so when you compete, you can just pop out the addapters and hit your higher tuning single note to stomp up what you can. Though i honestly doubt you can do 160, its not impossible.
The world record for this class is 166.2... thats 3 15"s with 15,000 watts PER sub. The 2nd place is 166 with 4 15"s and 6,000 watts PER sub.
If you see where i am going with this, it takes a lot more than just 1,000 watts RMS each sub to really get high numbers. Dont get me wrong, its not that you CANT do it, its just that it will not be easy without MASSIVE boxbuilding skills and bracing. If i were to predict, on a single note with large port area, you might be able to do high 150s... but to actualy nail a 160 or better legal, at the dash is not an easy feat.
hope that helped some. Do you know what your resonant frequency might be already? If not, you might be trial-error with a few boxes beforehand.

Trust me when i say i know its hard to hit a 160. ( i was saying it like a little kid wanting kandy) i agree with the 150's thouth. i dont know the resonant frequency .

Thank you for all

Well, just dont completely "glue" the box together, just screw it together. Get a meter (ratshack if you must) and do a graph with your SQ mode box addapter. Plot out between 40-80Hz and see where it peaks. Use WinISD or simular program to find the greatest peak tuning at your res freq.
That would be my advice. You can ask others, you can use the speed of sound theory, but in my experiance, there is no better way.
Good luck ;)

I am wondering about the charging system, sounds like your going to have one heck of a load on your alternator/batteries.       If you cant keep the batteries charged then you would be getting much of anywhere.       As far as the boxes, I think kickers specs are a little overkill from what I have seen in the lanes.

You beat me to it, i was also gona ask about the electrical system.  You'll need a HO alt in the 200+ (hot) range, and most likely a few batterys.  Im not an SPL expert, but the man above is very knowledgeable in that section.

Dont worry i forgot to mention that i have a HO alt of 220 amps and plan on 2 more batteries. That i know is a given.

Nice, glad to see womeone who is on the ball before the start.    I noticed that you are builing with a partenership from US Amps.    If this is a case, why did you chose to run (4) 1000 amps?    I would really look into 2 smaller amps, or if you can get your hands on them some of the new 100hc's    maybe a HC100Ultra...but I know those will have a price of $1000-$2000+
As far as the L7's I have heard a great amount and seen a lot of these subs in a common chamber for 2 subs, that is why I made the recomendation of maybe 2 amps,   one amp per sub set.      I am just putting some feelers out for you to say what you have thought of already and what I am seeing.
For the box I would not go to the extent of 6-8cuft per sub, by the time your done those 4 subs would be needing 24-32cu ft and wood/port space, I dont imagine this working out unless you were builing a wall setup.
Let me know what some of you plans are and what you think of some of the sugestions I have made. Also where are you building this car, and what will you be running in   USACi? DbDRAG?
