Ive been looking for some 6.5" components for around $100.  Ive found these so far:

http://www.cardomain.com/item/CLASRS1685 ($108 with the coupon)

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?Productid=12576

https://ikesound.com/product-product_id/3406

https://ikesound.com/product-product_id/1997

http://www.thezeb.com/p-CDT-Audio-CL-61A-6-1-2-inch-Component-System-101083.htm (I can get those for $115)

Any feedback from people who have heard any of those speakers would be great.  I know I should listen to speakers before I buy, but the shops near me dont carry those brands and I cant afford the speakers they do have.  Im not a big SQ buff, so I just need something that will get loud and sound pretty good.  Ive been running 2 amped Kenwood 6x9s in the back deck of my car for the past year, so anything will sound better.

Hmm.

I've never been a big fan of Clarion stuff.. the other sets u posted have a larger tweeter and better power handling.  Generally, if you can buy a brand at Circuit City, keep looking.

Absolut Crap.

These I like... 1" silk tweeter.. pointable with a nice steep xover.  Haven't heard them but PG makes good gear.

Now these actually made it into the final running last time I bought componets... they lost out to...  yep.. CDT Classics... eh! I listened to these several times at a shop, back to back to a set of MBQuart Premium series componets....  the sales guy was really trying to get me to grab the MBQuart gear..  I liked the Alpines though.. very clean.. nice mellow high.. not the most detailed speakers but.. eh.. I liked 'em.

CDT! Woot! CDT makes some interesting stuff.  I'm saving for a set of HD series midbasses now...  the tonality of these speakers was very counter to what I've come to expect from componets these days.. so much of what I hear has a very bright and etched sound... these highes are very neutral high with a nice punchy midbass...

Ultimately, they were not a set I could keep, but my standards are disgusting.  And I have entirely to much power for them.  Again, not the most detailed speakers, but the tonality was *awesome*.. very.. eh.. musical..  the worst thing I could say about them was, that at higher volumes, (like the upper range of 150 JL-watts)  the sound suddenly changes.. like.. not distorts exactly, but takes on a very unpleasant tone and becomes totally unlistenable.  If I had a round 50 watts or so ... I think they'd a been perfect.

Maybe we make some noise we could get DYohn in here...?  He just installed a set a week or so ago and I'd love to get his opinion on this set..

I think you ought take a harder look at the Alpines and the CDT's.  Definately the cream of that crop.

Yes, the CDT comps I purchased are in the wife's car and they sound great.  She is very happy.  They replaced some aging Blaupunkt comps and are a vast improvement.  Very clean and uncolored, present but not overwhelming mids, decent bass response, tweeters not at all harsh like some car audio speakers, and sure to sound even better as they break in.  I'd rank them as about a 6 out of 10 on the Dave Yohn Subjective Speaker Taste scale.  Best 6.5 comps for around $100 -- posted image.  Worth a listen.

Heh D,

"6 out of 10 on the Dave Yohn Subjective Speaker Taste"

More more..!  D, you understand a sickeningly fierce impulse for information!  Needless to point out you say nothing but positive things but then proceed to provide only a 60% endorsement and a "Worth a listen"....  certainly not a flaming endorsment on basis of actual gramatical construction, but, if judged on the blushing smilie face, who knows what to think?

Okay okay specifics:

1) So nothing is bliss, but knocked 4-points.. why?  What was missing?

2) More specifically, is there any thing you did not like about them?  Could you leverage criticism in any particular place?

3) How about praise?

4) What is your opinion of the construction of the crossovers in general and the "super-tweet" output in particular?  (I've never seen this anywhere ...  do you know anything about the function of the passive if a super-tweet was wired up?  Does it lop an octave off the main and give it to the super or what?  I know that two speakers playing the same frequencies on the same soundstage is *bad*..?)

5) Please describe the install conditions.  What kinda power are these componets getting? Where are the tweeters mounted?  What tweeter output level did you select? Did you experiment with a few of them?

D... maybe I listened to these too long but I'm really curious...

?!

These are not on the list but here it goes:

Well I'm partial to the Hifonics Atlas components I have.  Paid $95 shipped and these are one of the best sounding components you can get for $100 (even if it was 200 they would still be a good buy).   110 watt RMS, running them of RF 250A2 bridged and they scream, if they sound this good on a muddy RF amp (I think the RF amps are not realy good for components due to the high THD at least the one I have is a lot better suited for subs) I can't wait to hear them on a better amp.  Anyways got mine of e-bay (new in factory packaging) and love them.

CDT components are nice also.

(1) Kenwood Excelon Head Unit KDC-X589 (24 bit Burr Brown DAC, 3 X 4 volt RCA).
(1) RF Punch 250A2 - running the components.
(1) Hifonics 6.5" Atlas Components (18db crossovers).

Thanks for the advice guys, Ive decided to get the CDT Ka-61's. Only $100 shipped from a guy on sounddomain who is a authorized retailer. I talked to him on AIM which is pretty cool. The next best thing to buying from a shop I suppose.
