Hey all.  New to this forum.  Need help.  Have a 2000 Malibu that the Anti Teft device comes on a lot of the time.  So I am stuck for 15-30 minutes at a time.  I hate this damn thing soo much.  Just need to know if the 2000 Mailbu has a passlock, passlock I, or passlock II system.  I believe I do not have a coded key.  The dealership wants to charge me $400 - $500 to replace the entire ignition switch and other parts associated with the ignition switch.  Not to mention they want to keep it for a week or more.  I just can't afford this type of money.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Don't suppose you know where it would be located on the 2000 Malibu?  Just a shot in the dark.  Thanks again.

Should be in the Igntion Harness which is trickiy to get to.
To access the ignition harness remove the radio (without unplugging it) or the panel just above the radio.

Do you have an aftermarket alarm? If so, just hookup the factory dis-arm wire to your domelight output wire from your aftermarket alarm. I

What is it exactly does he want to do though? If he just wants to shut it off, why spend $175 when you can just shut the factory alarm (Im assuming its the same as the anti-theft) could be dis-armed easily (Again, assuming he has an aftermarket alarm)

The car really isn't worth much resale.  Really don't want to dump more money into it than needed.  I just want to disbale the anti theft device.  Much cheaper than throwing another $175 plus eight hours of work on top of that 'cause I am not mechanically inclined.  Plus what happens if I screw something up.  Then I would probably be throwing much more money into it.  Cheaper to disable it.  That's it.  Thanks for all the input on this subject.

I just read a thread on here not two days ago about disabling the Passlock anti-theft on GMs.  Guy got flamed pretty bad; but it might help you out.
Life moves pretty fast; if you don't stop and look around once in a while; you could miss it.
