Where can I find some 15 watt 6.5 midrange speakers to replace the ones in my wife's car?  Her audio system sounded great and I can't seem to find ones that are rated that low.  Isuzu installed a component set up front but they want $70 each for these light weight speakers.  I have already purchased some replacements but it just does not sound near as good!

Thank you all for your input, it is appreciated.  This website is awesome!!

Evanc:  Assuming that those speakers are installed in more than one Isuzu, I might find some there but most of the time the weather has already trashed them.  And if they were only installed in a 1997 Trooper then they would also be 8 years old as well.

Boardinburn: I already have installed aftermarket an it does not sound anything close to the original sound.  I could not find any 15 watt 6.5" midrange aftermarket speakers unless I went with a component set but the wattage started at around 50 or 60 watts and went up.  The sound system in the car was designed with 15 watt speakers, not 50watt speakers, thus the poor sound quality.  I would have to add an amp to get the sound up and my wife is not into that, I am, but she's not and its her car.

Velocity Motors: What do you mean?  Do you have a set that would work?

Godblessdremil:  That is a great idea, I didn't know that.  I might give that a try.

Cheers

The problem is not the wattage ratings, that has nothing to do with anything.  The difference you are hearing is because aftermarket speakers are far more accurate and less sensitive than most OEM speakers, but many car manufacturers custom EQ systems to compensate for the shortcomings of the cheap speakers they use.  The "problem," if you want to call it that, is the factory head unit in your vehicle.  And by the way, the speakers in the vehicle are most likely not "mids," but full-range speakers.

Returning the car to stock sound system is the cheapest solution if that is what you want to do.  I agree with the above suggestions as far as finding replacements, and also recomend you check out www.partsexpress.com as they often have OEM speakers.  Check in their "buyouts" section.  You can also purchase new OEM speakers from any dealer, but expect to pay an outlandish price like $100 for them.

Thanks DYohn

The factory speakers that I am speaking of are not full range speakers, they have a single cone with the tweeter mounted higher in the door panel, they are actually a component set but all I'm shopping for is the woofer part of the set, if that's possible.  I thought that finding a replacement woofer would be much cheaper and easier than replacing the HU or the whole speaker set but so far I have had no luck.  My wife and I really liked the sound of the system and don't want to spend any money on it because I have spent a fortune on my own system in my Rodeo.

I need to make some calls to these aftermarket install shops.

I'd be willing to bet it's a full-range speaker and the tweet is just layered on top of it.  But if it IS a mid, then that helps explain why your aftermarket speakers did not perform as well as there would have to be a crossover in the system somewhere.

Try THESE.  If it doesn't work you're not out much money.
