Hey all,

I was wondering if you guys can give me some insights on wether to buy the 555u or 555d for the remote start. I only 1 key, and don't want to waste money duplicating more keys just for the 555u. Is the 555D complicated to hook up and does it work at all with the prelude? I plan to be using the DEI unit with the Audiovox remote start alarm.

Thanks

The 555d learns your key R-code so you wont need another key. The 555u requires leaving a spare key inside it for as long as the system is on the vehicle. Booth are easy to install and can be made to work with almost any remote-start sytem. The 555d will work in most prelude however I cant say for sure if it will work with yours because you didnt state the year.

Thanks for the reply. Year is 97. I was told the 555d is very complicated to install, since I am no expert but have done 1 or 2 alarm installations in the past. Also, I was told 555d doesnt work, so that's why I'm confused if I should ge it. I'd definitely like to go without having to buy another key.

Hey all. I was told to buy the 555D for the Prelude 97 to bypass the alarm. I am installing it right now but sort of confused. I installed exactly like the 555D diagram says to do ( cut the ignition, data (PIX) ). So now, I have the Audiovox 785 alarm w/ remote start to install next. Everything is all set except the remote start wire components from the alarm, such as ignition 1 , starter, AC etc. The alarm unit asks to cut the starter, ignition wires in half and connect it with the alarm's wires. So that's where I'm stuck. The 555D already cut these wires and stuff, so how should I tap the wires from audiovox alarm into these wires?  I'm ok with installing alarms, but never done one with immobilizer. Help this novice plssss. 97 Prelude remote start - Last Post -- posted image.

U need to INSTALL Remote Start 1st........as the 555D Manual reads.

The wires you are to hook the 555D are at the Ignition Switch / Immobileizer Unit

Hey legenux, this is what I said in my last reponse to you ( I think you misunderstood my PM ):

The ignition & starter wire that the Audiovox system asks you to cut is not the same wires as the Immobilizer. You have to cut the ignition harness wires for the Auiovox system

So what you have to do is wire in the Immobilizer system first and then take the main ignition wires off the Audiovox system and find the proper wires at the ignition switch. The only wires you should have in common with the 555D and the Audiovox unit is the ground, 12 volt power & the starter wire. The wires that you have to cut for the ignition are in a BLACK loom running under the steering column and into the driver's side dash.
