I was afraid this would lead here...

I don't want to turn this into a forum about me.  But since you asked, I started a small manufacturing biz for the outdoor industry that came from ideas just like this.  Moderate success, poor choice of partner.  Sold it off a year ago.  Hell of a lot of fun tho to take an idea & turn it into reality.  Have taken that experience into bicycle race promoting, hoping to make that a FT thing (meaning profitable & sustainable) in the next 24 months.  It doesn't pay the bills, but it will in 2 years.  Meanwhile I have a day job also.

Starting to sound like Tony Robbins, I know.  If there's one thing I learned from starting ventures like this it's that when we chase dreams we either win big or fail even bigger, but at least we had the guts to live on our own terms & take a chance.  And in reality, we never really lose - my failures have led to other successes - $$.  Enough of that.

One other thing it does - it drives you to work late into the nite like this...(gotta get off the forums!).

It's amazing how off topic this has gone, but seeing where it is now I will share a semi funny start up story. In the mid 70s when I was also in home stereo we came up with a late night, far to many chemicals idea. We designed a women's vibrator that plugged into the headphone jack of a home receiver. It would vibrate at 100 hz to the music. Built the prototype, manufactured about 500 of them, took out full page ads in all of the "men's" magazines. How could this miss we thought? Lost our shirts, still have about 499 of them stored somewhere. Lesson learned? Good ideas are not happening at 2 in the morning with a bunch of mind altered friends.
