Pioneer has just announced it's new double din navigation system which will be everything I wish my D1 could do. It has a Smart tech feature that learns the driver's routine and frequently traveled routes and adjusts the route to accordingly. It also has a dvd player (not just rom), a 30 gig hard drive for media and nav smart tech, as well as all the other features that were standard on the D1.
....who wants to buy my D1? ;-)

"DVD video playback – With an additional rear seat monitor, the AVIC-Z1 becomes the ultimate entertainment haven with its ability to play DVD video and DVD-R/RW discs for rear seat passengers while the driver and front passenger listen to AM/FM/XM/Sirius or other external sources."
From that description it sounds like it will still only play DVD video on an external monitor...unless I read it wrong
Life moves pretty fast; if you don't stop and look around once in a while; you could miss it.

I would assume that dvd playback for the dash would be possible when the car is in park.

What I'd like to know but can't quite tell for certain from the press release:
1) Will it play MP3 files burned onto DVD-R/DVD-RWs? I get the impression it won't.
2) Will the Ipod interface be improved over the D1/N2 interface?
I'm guessing I'll have to wait until next spring to find out.

Not sure about #1 but it does say enhanced ipod capability in the press release.  This years 5700DVD has that and it works very well so I would think they would include that with the Z1.  I hope so

Wow, that unit looks to be a killer. Can't wait to try it out!
