I've got one of those in my car, and I sell Scytek's other stuff - products themselves are pretty nice, and come with good instructions. I'm not keen on their tech support, but for the price it's not too bad. The Astra 1000RS doesn't have an alarm - the 4000RS does, and has all the same remote start/keyless features.

What about the range? I found it on buy.com saying with alarm. Here is the link

Haven't used mine at over 200 feet so I can't say for sure about the range...buy.com is wrong for describing it that way - it most definitely does not have alarm functions. My install manual and Scytek's own site verify that.

I've just had them this year - no problems so far. Definitely not like the Bulldog unit I put in my pickup - wouldn't learn the tach, and then the remote stopped working and wouldn't be programmed.

which system did not work well. Bulldog or Astra. the wording is a little confusing.

Seems clear enough, he said the Astra has no problems so far, and it was the Bulldog that had all the trouble.

Link for the manual shows no alarm functions, though it does have controls you could use to arm and disarm your factory alarm.

I was looking at the section in the manual that describes the manual transmission remote start, and it oddly doesn't mention the doors locking during the RS mode. It spells it out with the auto tranny configuration, "the doors will lock," and you have to "unlock doors, turn on ignition, and press the bake pedal to disengage the remote start."
With the manual transmission mode, it only says to "turn on ignition and press the bake pedal." Does that mean it automatically unlocks the doors during the RS, or did they just leave out the part you have to unlock it using the remote, which seems more likely-
