Just yesterday i installed the compustar 1wam-s remote starter into a 2005 gmc jimmy. When finished the service engine light is on. The system works perfectly aside from that. I am using the white wire from the thick loom under the hood on driver side near firewall for the tach rate and a passlock sl bypass module to integrate with the cars passlock 2 system. After custumer returned today he mentioned that the car was a little sluggish, saying that he would have to press pedal half way down before car really reacts. I dropped the bellypan and found that i had missed the 2nd ign wire, a small gauge white wire. I then connected the 2nd ign to the brain, but still light is on. I tried leaving the negitive terminal off the battery for 20 min thinking it may reset the computer but that did not work. After doing that we took a quick drive around the block and the truck seemed to respond normaly to the accelerator.

Are these problems typical with not connecting the 2nd ign on this vehicle or could it be something else? and what has to be done to reset the light?

Any help would be appreciated. thx

You might have to clear the trouble code from the service engine light with a scan tool....

if it generated a hard code it will need to be purged with the Tech II ...... soft codes will clear themselves after X # of cycles of the ign switch.....

The code and light will return to normal after 40 ignition cycles. Otherwise, you require a scan tool to clear the code and turn off the light as mentioned.

So was there any new word on this matter? Was the missed 2nd Ign the problem? I have a friend who just put a Viper 791 into a 97 GMC Jimmy & is doing the same thing.

He reports that when he remote starts & drives it is very sluggish, but if he kills it & uses the key to start it, it is perfectly fine. Check engine light is also on. I will have to pass this find on to him.

Unless it raises the hair on the back of your neck, its only noise!

Not hearing for myself from the custumer but rather from my boss the service enginge light is out and the vehicle is operating perftectly. He had said that the light went out 2-3 days after I reconnected the 2nd ign wire to the remote starter. My guess is that the ign cylinder had received it's X# of cycles and reset just like you guys had suggested it would. Now after this experience, I will take the extra minute to see if there needs to be a 2nd ign wire connected for future jobs.

I appreciate the effort put out from you guys to help me figure out this little problem.
