Looking for the speed sensor on a 2000 tahoe(new body-no bose,no onstar). As you can guess, I am hooking up the AVIC_N1. Do i need those hooked up? How about the reverse hook up even if I have no camera. Thanks as always.

take the gauges out (about 6 screws). there will be one harness that plugs into it, the DARK GREEN / WHITE STRIPE on the far left of the plug (closest to driver side) will be the VSS. do not hook up the backup wire.

Mnay Thanks. If  I read the cruise control wire diagram correctly, this same wire is at the radio harness as well.(speed control volume feature).

go ahead and try that wire. i know that 2001+, that is a "dummy" wire. GM disabled it because everyone was grounding it to reset the mileage.

Is there a way to test that wire while driving? (the one at the radio harness-it is the same color as you described).Voltage or something like that?

you can hook everything up useing that wire and drive around with the MPH screen on the AVIC. if it doesnt show MPH then the wire is a dummy.

I was going to say you could jack up the back of the car, put it in neutral, and roll the back tires- but I like ss's idea better.

Before I finalize the installation of a N1, I turned on the unit to make sure it worked. Everything appears to work normal except there is no sound . The radio will scan and pick up a channel but cannot hear anything from the speakers. I have hard wired to the original plug from the Tahoe using only the speaker wires not any RCA outputs. Thought I read about a way to turn off the RCA's and turn back on the speaker wires, but darn if I can find it. Any suggestions? Thanks , Joey

You need to power up the factory amp turn on wire.  It may be pink, but I don't remember.  That's why it's best to use a harness and not hardwire- then you just match color to color.

I wil look for that wire. I may have mispoke when I used the word "hardwired". I was referring to the small speaker wires and not the RCA plugs. But like you suggested I did use a harness from crutchfield. It did not have any extra wires to match up to for the factory amp. Actually did not realize I had an amp without a Bose system. All good info. Thanks!
