A friend asked me to do a sub/amp install on a 2006 Jetta with a factory deck. Before I start opening it up, does anyone know if the stock deck has rca outs that I can use for the subs? If not what would be the best route to keep the stock deck and add-on the subs/amp?
Thanks guys.

Dang, so I take it the best way would be just to replace the factory deck? It's a shame, that isn't a half bad looking deck.

just use an LOC, convert speaker level to rca. easy way to keep factory deck and add amps

I looked at an LOC, but don't you have to disconnect the rear speakers for it to work? So basically there would be only fronts and then the subs?

No a LOC  taps the signal to the rear speakers.  It does not eliminate them.

Yeah a line out converter is the best bet. They arnt a loud as it would be with an after market deck, but it will get the job done. When you buy one look for an adjustable one then adjust it to you listening preferences before you tuck it into the dash. They are usually around 20 - 30 dollars for a good one.

http://www.scosche.com/scosche_caraudio.aspx?CategoryID=29&ItemID=LOC-80  There is the link to exactly what im talking about.  Ive used that in a firneds car i was pretty happy with it and its not like a cheap one either. If you look that company has won sema awards and everything so they are good. Keep them in mind.

hobobasher- why are there seven wires on the scosche LOC-80? I thought only 3 would be needed.

All good advice above, IMO.  That factory system have a sub?  If so, a separate sub amp?  If that's the case you will want to use those wires for the signal after the amp.  If not, either the front or the rear wires.  I prefer the fronts because if the driver wants to fade the rears lower than the fronts, which is normal, the signal will fade that feeds the sub amp.

As far as the LOC's wiring goes...each will come with instructions on hook-up.  I know that the ones I have used have ground wires that are not used at all because they are there in case the stock system happens to be common ground.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
