Hey guys, I am building a kit car and want to eliminate the alternator light.  What size resistor should I use and why?

You can't just unplug it. The alterantor uses the light as a resistor to create trickle voltage to excite the regulator.

So measure the resistance of the light.
My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.

You didn't mention what type of alternator you are using, but I know the GM CS130 140 amp style alternator requires a 47 ohm resistor in lieu of a light.

well depends on your budget. me i would go all the way with that one. great car for a fg project for subs and amp behind the seats there.

for the hu. it's all on your ear, how and what kind of sound you like. myself, i like clarion and they have the pc base hu now that will catch and store as many songs as an ipod or close.

alpine has really nice qauilty also and a hefty price tag. best bet is too shop around at your local stereo shops to get a better idea of what you would like. test drive them and as many as you can.

one qeustion why do you want to eliminate the alt. light? why not a guage? exspeacily if you are going to go with a system. i just would have piece of mind to see what my alt. was doing.

if not i would go with a 1 watt or greater on the resistor.
