I do agree with you that the disks are over priced and to be honest I feel you should be able to get updates at a nominal fee (Maybe $20 or so for at least 2 years) I mean Its not like they do a whole lot on changing the feature set. Its more of a map update. The funny thing is I installed the new 50MT version over my original 40MT and lost the street the goes to my house. Funny how an updated disk actually has incorrect information that old version was just fine with. This is why I want an editor. Also when pioneer decides that the product is at its end of life and doesnt make an update anymore then we will all be screwed. With an editor at least you can fill in the blanks on areas you will use it in.
