Remote start cranks but wont start

I installed a Crimestopper 2016FM alarm/remote start in a 2003 Honda Civic. I used a DEI 555 bypass module. It was working fine for a few months but now when I attempt a remote start it cranks but doesn't start. I don't think it's the bypass module because the immobilzer light is off while it's cranking. Also, I put the key in the ignition and remote started and it still just cranks. It will start fine using the key to start it. All of the other features of the alarm work fine. When I attempt a remote start, the dash lights come on and it attempts to start but then it just cranks. Any help is appreciated.

try starting with the key and then doing remote start takeover. If it doesn't stay running when you remove the key then your ignition wire is no longer being energized during remote start. Did you by any chance use t-taps to make your connections? Try turning the key to on but not start and then remote start and see if it starts up. It definately sounds like the ignition wire to me.Steve G

I turned the key to the run position and tried to remote start but it wouldn't do anything. I don't think the unit will do that. I turned it back off and I pushed the remote start button and then immediately turned the key to the run position. It just cranked but didn't start. I soldered the large wires that connect to the ignition harness and all of the wires for the bypass unit. I only used taps for some of the smaller wires like the parking lights.

I started the car and did the remote start takeover. I removed the key and it kept running. Do you think the alarm/rs unit went bad?

Not sure. Have you tried relearning the tach? Also check the main supply fuses for the unit to make sure one of the fuses didn't blow. Does it start right up on the first try with the key?Steve G

I had this happen to one of my customer's as well. Everything worked fine for about 3-4 months and then it wouldn't crank. I replaced the bypass module with a newer version ( S5 from Trilogix ) and this fixed the no start issue. If your going to be trying the key in the ignition test, you have to unplug the bypass module otherwise the car sees two keys and will not start.Jeff

i would try to change out the by pass module. I had this happen to a customer a while back also.

Thought you might like to know the result. I finally got a chance to swap out the bypass module and it fixed the problem. Thanks for your help. I used a bypass module that holds a spare key. Seems like the programmable type isn't very reliable.
