If you don't want to put plywood in your headliner I would suggest you bend a peice of steel sheet metal in the shape you need to hold what you want. make sure you have at least a stip 1/2" on each end that will lay flat against the roof. Go to an Auto Body Supply House and get some "Panel Adhesive" and use that to glue the panel to your roof. These adhesives are replacing welding for body panels, so it extremely strong. Panels bonded properly with this stuff will tear before the glue joint fails. They are designed to be used with a special cartridge gun to dispense them, but you can get away with using a socket and extinsionsion to pushhh out onto a mixing board, use equal amounts and mix thoroughly lika a 2 part epoxy. you can buy this adhesive in anywhere from 1 minute to 2 hour working times. I hope this helps you out.
