Is the sony going to be running the sub bridged or off one channel.  Its proberly only 4ohm stable bridged but 2ohm stable stereo.  If that is the case, run the sub off one channel with a 2ohm load, or bridge it and run an 8ohm load (will result in a power loss) or get a mono amp.

Option 1 (parallel) = 2 ohm load
Voice coils wired in parallel
Recommended Amplifier: Stable at 2 or 1 ohm mono

Option 2 (series) = 8 ohm load
Voice coils wired in series
Recommended Amplifier: Stable at 4, 2, or 1 ohm mono

Bridge the amp, and wire the voice coils in series (assuming the sub is a dual 4 ohm voice coil).

Don't just use one channel of the amp with the voice coils in parallel, as this will not give you any more power, and will not sound as good (more THD at lower impedance levels).  Also if the signal that's input to the amp is in stereo (not mono), you may only get half the audio signal left or right.

My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.

There should be a switch on the side of the amp that tells you.
