Yeah, sounds like your wires are right, except that the ground-when-running input is blue/black; you may have just incorrectly remembered it as blue/orange.
And right, there are two wires that are NOT connected for Passlock II systems----the starter wire (purple) and bulb check (I think it's BLACK/ white? not sure though).
If you don't mind, I'll throw a series of questions/thoughts your way......
--Sounds like your 555L's wires are right----but where are the wires you connected to in the car? Should be that if you lay on your back and look up, into the plastic steering column shroud, off toward the passenger-side of the keyswitch.......you can see the three wires there, where they run into another, bigger harness with gray plastic tubing.........there is just enough room to make your connections. Not a lot of slack on them.
--Next, would be time to troubleshoot and see if the 555L is "seeing" what it is supposed to.
In one quick and easy step, you can test the quality of your own work, the quality of the wires for the 555L, the fuses.......
Simply go right to the 555L, without even having to unplug it, and touch your circuit-tester to the metal pins that are in the plug.........test for power, ignition, ground, and ground-when running. That'll at least rule those as being good or bad.

Again the above post by me and the person after me clearly describe the exact problems you are having, read over it and you'll see it's not all your fault =).
