Hey all.  I have JVC Headunit in my 1998 toyota tacoma.  Pioneer 3-way speakers (2 speaker set-up) are about a year old.  I'm pretty sure my headunit is fried, but I figured I'd ask here first.  Seemingly randomly, whether I'm listening to a CD or the radio, I suddenly get almost nothing but loud static.  Sometimes I'll just get a constant popping sound in both speakers.  Sometimes both.  For about a month, I've been able to push on the faceplate lightly and it would go away for a while, now I can't have the stereo on for more than 30 seconds before it goes to static/popping.  Adjusting the faceplate doesn't help.

I don't have the money for a new headunit right now, so I was hopping you guys could give me a few ideas of what to check.

Thanks,

Dan

The faceplate is detachable correct? how does the faceplate plug into the deck body? Is it a small male-female plug like the Pioneers decks from a couple of years ago?  It sounds like a problem with the connection between the faceplate and the deck body, since you mentioned that pushing on the face plate used to help. Could be wrong though.

Yes, faceplate if detachable, and it is a small (maybe 1" wide by 1/4" high) male/female plug.  Stereo was in the truck when I bought it, speakers I installed. Thats what I'm thinking, a problem with that connection.  Whether it be the connector itself or something inside the headunit.

My first post... headunit causing popping noises -- posted image.
This sounds familiar. I had the problem with my faceplate about nine months ago. The display would go out until I jimmied with it, then it would come on again. Then one day it would work at all (no sound), basically it blew an EEPROM inside the deck. But I do remember the popping noises before it blew up on me. Hope this helps somewhat.
