ok, then can a regular 4 button remote viper like from a 160 be used with a 771 remote and its antenna?

Nope have to use the led remote.  TRied the 4 button ones too

if it is an LED remote then yes you can learn any compatible 4 button 1 way remote to it... if it is the LCD remote (791, etc) then the only compatible 1-way remote is the 472 series remote

nope, dont believe so... i could be proven wrong tho... i know the the XHF antenna for the LED units and the XHF antenna for the Valet 554 although looking identical are in fact different frequencies and dont work.... and HX is their entry level antenna with no return comm lead at all.....

Thank you all for your adivce. I still have not figured out how to get the remotes programed in after the ZAP, but I do appreciate all of your advice.
