Hi all,
I have MbQuart QSD-213s (5.25inch) seperates as thr front stage of my car. I currently have the speakers bi-amped (the amps have active crossovers) through the passive x-overs that came with the speakers. Is there any reason to be using the passive x-overs? Or can I just use the crossovers in the amps.
I guess what I want to know is if the passive x-overs are providing any extra measure of protection to the speakers.
If I can take the passives out, where should I cross my tweeters at?
I believe that they are crossed at 2300hz with the passives.
thanks for your help
Ryan

The crossover that came with your speakers is specifically made for your speakers. Why wouldn't you want to use it?

I totally agree with the above.  The passive crossover have much more than an electrical slope at a guessed upon frequency within their design.  They shape the acoustic response of each driver to sum an ideal result through the use of specific slopes, equalization, and other electrical circuits.  This process is called "voicing" the crossovers and is something that you will not get by utilizing the amplifiers crossovers.

okay guys thank you very much! To answer Boardinbum, I was hoping to cross them lower to bring the vocals into the tweeter range, but I will leave them as is
thanks again

Here's a link to a convo from the12volt... there are three other links in the last post in it from me... Check em out!
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
