JdM xplod b01: you're pulling 60amps MAX.
If you want to save money you could jus tuse a 12awg romex. USing all three wires will get you your 60amp capacity

I was always told two wires of the same AWG added together only increases the wire size 3 sizes larger not double! Two #8 would equal 5 AWG.

Yep, in this case, two #8's (16484 circular mils) does roughly equal a single #5 (32974 circular mils).
Here's a calculator for figuring what wires doubled or tripled up make what size wire... Sure, you've got to do a little math, geez... you want me to do it ALL for you? 8 + 8 Gauge = 4 Gauge? - Page 2 -- posted image.
