What's loose?

You don't need the power of the headunit for anything but its working functions and putting the flash on the screen.  The amplifier will supply the power for the music.  Isn't this thread about amplifiers?

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

I thought so too, but I guess it changed.
That's my opinion. Take it, leave it, or correct me.

why bother??    you'll simply get a bunch of subjective answers based on personal tastes...     it's like asking "what are the top 5 cars in the world?"  based on what??

I'm not trying to be a drag, but these sorts of threads really just take up space..... the best thing to do is go out and audition some product and decide for yourself what YOU like...... there are good products (you'll notice i didnt say "brands") and there are not - so - good products out there..... decide for yourself.....

one thing i've learned from my weekend garage sale shopping wife is "one man's trash is another man's treasure"

i agree with kgerry on this one. i'm the little installing that i've been doing over the years i've learned that people (by ear's definition)will call garbage quality sound. it's all about what YOUR ear likes. now if you gave us a basic factor about an amp or sub or what ever (ie best spl or sq, most relieable power source, or even a price range bang for buck) we could all be more helpful from rookie to moderator.
