My company sells the cordless weller one. Back in the day they didn't have the self igniting one so I spent 100bucks on the snap-on. And now I just saw the weller with the self ignition for something like 30 bucks. bastereds.
but imo "Pencils" are the way to go. They are more small and easy to work with. I can't imagine installing an alarm without one.
At my old shop we had a big craftsman pistol style iron that would glow red. Just incase we had to solder 4 guage or anything like that. which I can't recall ever doing. I think all we used it for was to light cigarettes.
