6x9’s In 2001 Grand Prix

Hi my name is Mike. I have a 2001 Grand Prix with a factory Bose sound system. Now I've already had a aftermarket cd player installed. It blew out the factory 6x9's. I've bouth another pair of Kenwood 6x9's. When Hooked them up nothing happened. I think I connected them to the wrong wires but I don't know. I need to know what colors shoud the wires be that i'm going to connect the 6x9's to. Or if you have the rear speaker diagram for my car I would really appreciate the help, Thanks.Money Mike

why dont you just use the original wiring with the new 6x9s? black or brown tends to be negative in my monte the original wires were yellow(+) and brown(-) hope this helps97 Monte Carlo

Question for you..did you have the upgraded Bose setup that has a Factory amp. If so, that could be your problem. I know on my 2001 Grand Am with the upgraded stereo I blew the 6x9s as well. Then when I went to hook up my kicker ones, I realized that the factory amp actually splits the signal between bass and treble to the individual speaker. Just a heads up....Good luck.If your counting pennies and dimes then maybe you shouldn't be spending every penny and dime you have!!

I do have a factory amp, but i thought all that was bypassed when I got the Pioneer radio put in. I thought the signal would come through the kenwood 6x9's. So do I have to take it to the shop for $80 or am I just connecting the wrong wires?Money Mike

The wire colors for the rear speakers are listed correctly by duoproductionx. Your car has an amp that drives both the rear speakers and the rear subwoofers. The subs are 6x9 and they are sent only low frequencies. The other set of rear speakers are sent higher frequencies (more full range) by the amp. The wire colors listed are for the full range speakers. If you hook up to these and still have no audio, then you probably have a problem somewhere else. The problem could be wiring, the factory amp or the new radio. I doubt that the shop bypassed the factory amp when they put in the new radio. The amp is under the passenger side dash. You need to be very careful when dealing with BOSE systems as they usually use speakers of odd impedance. Hooking up different speakers can cause problems at times if they are not the correct value. You might be better off having the shop bypass the factory amp and use the high power amp in the new radio to drive all speakers.sparky
