The older models seem to outweigh the newer ones. I just assumed with the proper adjustments these newer units would outdo the older ones, but I was wrong. Thanks for all the input.

I've had a 9811 and now a 9813 I have looked at the newer alpines just bc of the ipod feature but have been not been too impressed with the newer ones unless its the nice dvd-audio player but i think the 9813 is better than most of the newer ones, most of the newer ones only have 2 volt outputs

just wait till the bass drops

I used a 7977 for many years and I liked what it for what it was, although it sounded tinny in comparison to my eclipse... I suppose that's what I get for using a 1 bit DAC in a hu.

I used to own about 5 different 7xxx series deck during the late 80's and early 90's and I've brought this up before on these forums..... Alpine was the shiznit back them with much higher quality components and better quality sounding HU. They are but a shadow of what they used to be now. Even when they re-released the 7909 with the copper chassis, it still wasn't what it used to be like, now you have a copper chassis that will heat up like a son of a gun....

i;'m gonna stick with my 9835 in my one car and the 9815 in the truck.....love the older alpine quality over the features of the new ones....although i do also have a new 9857 and i like it its just not as good with sound as the older ones i have

I've been the Alpine route. Hearing a friend's old Alpine system, I was just completely in awe with the quality. I decided that when I upgrade my system, its going to be alpine all the way. I then got a 4 channel amp, subwoofer amp (MRD 500), speakers ,HU etc, basically everything Alpine, including the subwoofer box. You can read it here:

It was a complete disaster for me. That is when I learnt that Alpine is no more what it used to be.

I disagree, i-personalize is a joke for HU without a monitor. If you have a monitor, you can download some pretty cool wallpaper, but for anything else, its worthless. Adjusting crossover frequencys and time correction is better, in my opinion, from the HU. You can hear what you do on the spot. Doing it from i-personalize you load it in, if you dont like it, you have to burn a new CD and try it again. Waste of time! I do agree that certain Alpines by far exceed any other.

I still have my old 7903 .. Still think it is the best SQ cd player available, The new units have alot of bells & whistles but seem to not have the Sound Quality of the older units.

Just my 1/2 cent...

Over the years alpine had always been good for me. I have used several HU in the early 90s..... well, ok the whole decade. Sorry to hear they have gone downhill. Hopefully they well revive themselves and get back to what they once were. What are the primary reasons for this?
