I am in the process of building a spec box for my JL 12 w6v2. It has a slot port and the box volume is only 1.5 cubic ft. This seems very small for a ported enclosure and a sub of this size. I have a bunch of MDF in the garage and plan on building several different boxes to see which one I like the most, sealed and ported. Are there any other resources that can give me some options to look at? Also, would this speaker benifit from a double baffle/faceplate? I did it on my last box and it made a huge difference, but it housed three subs in an open chamber.

Could try this box

And yes doubling the baffle board will never hurt...only strengthen the box.

The manual calls for a 1.25 cubic ft. enclosure for the sealed application. Would I benifit by going to a 1.5 or 1.75 enclosure, or would it make the performance of the speaker suffer? Would should I expecet if I did this?

Go by what the manufacturer recommends...Increasing box size will lower the frequency response I think (correct me if I'm wrong). But, also it will change the power handling of the woofer that could lead to speaker failure.
If 1.25 ft cubed is what is called for than go with that...if you want a bigger box than build a vented.
