where to mount tweeters?

most manufacturers reccommend that you mount the tweeter within 12 inches of the woofer.

agreed that it should be as close as possible though

Good advice from mobilesndfx about finding the best spot through sticky tape and trial-and-error.  The angle you finally decide on should be done the same way.  If the tweeter pod has two screw holes, use just one of them so you can rotate the pod to find the best sound.  When positioning and aiming is done, mount the tweeters as you like best.

And I agree that the tweeter should be near the mid driver.  That's your starting point.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
