I have dealt with the solo X only in a SPL application for the 10's and 12's   but a street app for the 18.    around 8 cu ft tuned to 34hz      all I can say is wow!   very very very loud, and actually sounded pretty darn good for an SPL woofer.

You made an enclosure for it that had EIGHT cubic feet of space??? That is crazy. Luckily I only have to deal with a SoloX 10. I think the recommended is 2.85 CU.Ft.
What did you use to tune it to 34Hz, and how?
I have never really tuned anything before, just basic settings on the Apline Deck (CDA-9853).
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

Tuning a box has nothing to do with a deck. Its all in how you build the box. If you use the search function im sure you will find endless amounts of posts about port tuning in boxes. Lots of good info out there. good luck lol

Ahhh, Port tuning ok. I have resources to learn more about that. Thanks KillerSn.
ArcAngel, there is a big debate going on about whether SPL and SQL are even valid terms or categories.
SQL - Sound Quality Level
SPL - Sound Pressure Level
"SPL Woofers" are subwoofers mainly used in competitions to show what setup can achieve the highest db.
The biggest consumer subwoofer to date is the MTX Jack Hammer (SRP $7000) It puts out 12000W Peak 6000W RMS
dB - Decibel, A unit of measurement for the ratio of loudness.
Points of Reference *measured in dBA or decibels
0 The softest sound a person can hear with normal hearing
10 normal breathing
20 whispering at 5 feet
30 soft whisper
50 rainfall
60 normal conversation
110 shouting in ear
120 thunder
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

SQL is a made up slang to make consumers feel good about thier installs. It allows them to think that they have a suffient set up that is both great for SQ and SPL. Sorry to break it all to you but you can only have one or the other, not both. there is an inbetween area but it doesnt mean you have the best of both worlds. It actually means your setup isnt good enough to belong to either category. lol. here is the link to the debate.

So what your saying is you can either have a system that hits hard as love but sounds doodiety in terms of being able to hera anything but bass -OR- you can have a system that sounds really good but doesnt hit really hard.
Correct me if im wrong
