hi, i have a quick question: would it be a good idea to connect the "remote" wire from my amp to reciever thru a switch? sometimes i would like to be able to shut off the amp and subs.

Yeah, just dont chince on it. Get a GOOD quality switch. I had so many mistakes of getting inexpensive switches for other misc. accessories on my previous vehicles. Not worth it to try and save a few bucks.

You are likely to get a bad turn off/on thump if you use the switch while the radio is on and playing. Turn the radio off before using switch.

That will also depend on the amp too. If you have one that has a internal surge suppressor, then no pop.

This is simply wrong information. ANYBODY will always tell you your amplifiers should always be turned off first, and turned on last. You will NOT get a thump from any decent amplifier. If you have no thump now, you won't have one later.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
