RS Stopped Working

I replaced my car key on the remote starter (Viper 791xv) and now my car won't remote start.  Car turns and starts but immediately dies.  Any suggestions on what I should check for?

year, make, model,.....did you use the standard "key in the box" bypass? if so the new key being programmed, bumped the old key out.

what if I get a different remote starter?  would I have to program my keys or could I just use my old keys?

Yeah, that's the deal with Nissans..... you must have ALL the keys available when programming. Like Kartuneman says, the best way would probably be to remove the key that's in the box, and then hand all of them to the Nissan dealer for programming. You can also tell them to simply do their normal programming........ at the time they're supposed to turn the ignition on with that other key, just activate the remote start instead.........when they want the ignition off, hit the brake. This usually works, but some of the Nissan techs will have some trouble doing it. Also, DEI-brand remote starts being cranking the starter almost immediately after the ignition comes on, which can be a problem.

Does this mean that I can't use the remote starter if I install it on a different car?

No, it's just one of your spare Nissan keys inside the bypass box mounted under the dash. Most likely, the remote starter is fine, it's just the key that needs to be reprogrammed. Pulling the remote start out of your car and installing it in another car is completely possible, although often it's not worth it. All of the wiring has already been cut to length to fit your car, wrapped up in tape, etcetera. The cost for labor to remove it from the old car, clean up and straighten out all the wires......extend some of them if necessary.....and install that in the new car.......usually adds up to almost the cost of just getting a new one installed.
