I just installed a 3650 eclipse amp to my alpine head unit , memphis fronts and rears along with a 10 in mtx sub. I ran the power down the drivers side and the rca and speaker cables down the passanger side. The system sounded awsome for about 30 min then a loud screach and then no sound. I check the fuse in the engine compartment and the 2 fuses on the amp,  they are all fine. The amp powers up but no sound. Well a dull hum in the speaker and thats it. There is a slight smell on the adjustment side of the amp. I grounded the amp to the rear seat post bolt making sure to sand off the paint on the bracket and the bolt. I used the same size wire (4 gauge) to ground the amp and power it. Did I screw up and not have a proper ground and fry my amp? I can't figure this out.

Thanks

Do you have another speaker you can use in place of the sub? That would tell you if it is the amp or the sub that went bad.

Is the whole system down?

Yes! Just a dull hum from the speakers when you turn on the radio.

The amp is fried.  Return it for warranty repair.

Do you think it was because of the ground location? I placed it on top of the bracket under the nut.

Either that or its a bad ground, the first time I hooked up my system, I grounded it to the seat bracket, It kept clipping my sub and eventually blew it.

Well I ruled out a bad ground. I borrowed my friends test light. I attached the + to the amp lead and the - to the ground lead and it showed a solid ground. So I guess the amp was bad. I think Im going to purchase the new Kicker ZX700.5. Anyone have any comments about the Kicker amp?
