box direction, spl?

will reversing the box, pointed toward the back in the trunk, with a ported box gain db?? or should i point the box toward the roof in the back seat? which would work better? i want to do this to enter a few more contests and hit higher. Right now its only 143.4, it would hit harder in a different car and bigger box, but i am limited right now. anyone know?

im not exaclty sure with ported but yes sealed boxes hit louder when reversed. your best bet would be to just try it and see what you like, since its totally up to you.

Agreed. I always found that my sealed enclosures hit harder and sounded better when reversed. I've run them in hatchbacks, coupes and SUV's. Along with directional position also expirement with locational position (move the box farther or closer to the back of the trunk.) 4ohm DVC's rated at 400RMS 1200Peak What amp are you running? How do you have the subs wired? (ohm level at the amp) What AWG cable are you using? Have you upgraded your alternator? Have you upgraded the wiring from your alternator to the battery? well right now i have a 98 cutlass olds, not really wanting to get into anything tech with it till iget another car. I am looking to get a 2 door ford escort hatch. My gauge is 4 i think and 1 ohm stable, but not for sure my audio guys do the work. i dont tuch the stuff to keep my waranty. i have a legacy dvd/mp3 player. I am losing db there i know, but i am getting a clarion cd player. i have 2 hifonics brutus

amps. the box is smaller than needed cause i ave limited trunk space, even with the box built into the trunk. I hit 143.4 when the trunks open, lower when its closed, around 142.3 i think. so for the time being i decided to take them and turn them around to see a difference. maybe also the backseat dont know. the cd player skips when i have the system up due to it being sensitive. but i am not worried about that for now till i get another car

Acoustics of the vehicle in question can affect the final outcome as well. The article makes some very good points and has graphs that show the difference in SPL.The Flakman
