Box Idea. Will This Work Alright?

Hello, first time poster here. I have been running two 12" Kicker CVR's in my trunk of my Escort, and since I put them in, I have blown 2 pairs of rear speakers on the rear deck. My co-worker who knows a lot about car audio said that he believes that the subwoofers that I am running are putting too much force on the bottom of the speaker cones, causing more wear and tear on them. He said that to practically eliminate this problem, to build a box that it a cabin-firing sealed box, but I have to make sure to extend the ends of the front board and seal the front of the box from my trunk. Since I have a 60/40 folding rear seat, he said that when I have the seats up, it will sound like it does now, which I like highly, but when I want a little more output, I can fold the back seats down, making the subwoofers point directly into the cabin. My question is, is his idea going to work? I'm not in it for spl's, I want tight, good quality bass. Thanks in advance. Any help is appreciated. Swick

easier fix, isolate your rear speakers and not the box...I have done this before using a sheet of dynamat over the speakers, but im sure someone on here could give you a better method to do this...'89 Mercedes-Benz 300E

Blowing up in a car accident doesnt worry me, as long as I'm putting out some major dB's when I die...

Could get those foam baffles from Crutchfield...inexpensive and they may help. My friend has two Memphis Mojo 12's with a MC-1000D on each in the trunk of his camry and he's never blown a rear speaker...and he's hitting 14dB's. So I dunno...what speakers are they?? are they externally amplified or powered by the head unit??

The first pair that blew where they stock paper, crappy speakers, and the second ones were again, pretty crappy, they were a used set of Pioneer TS-A687OR's that I got from a friend. But I was still wondering if this type of box would sound good. I really like the idea of this box, because it would save me a lot of space in my trunk, without having to glass anything. But, I've never heard one before, so I don't know how it will sound. Swick

Sorry..edit 148dB lol NOT 14db...I can fart ten times louder than that But his is also in the smallest recommended vented box tuned to 40Hz..

Use the foam baffles. After you get them, fiberglass the outsides of the baffles. Voila, a nice tight enclosure for your rear mids.
