hey guys. im installing my first alarm on my 86 monte carlo. it is a viper 3000 im having a couple of problems though. the main problem right now is my door trigger.  my wiring diagram says it is a white wire located at the headlight switch but it should be a ground when the door is closed. the problem is, it is not a ground when the door is closed. the car doesnt have a dome light (bought it like that and just havent gotten around to replacing it) and even when the door is shut the dome light terminals read 12v so im assuming if i had a dome light it would never go off. does anybody know what the problem is? could it be a dead pin switch? how can i test the pin switch. im really dreading that possibility because the switch is in the door jamb and i have no idea how to replace it. i think i would have to take the fender off and that would be a huge pain in the ass. thanks for everybody's input

all you have to do is loosen pinswitch from door jamb with a 3/8 or 7/16 deep socket.  there's two wires on it. one goes to ground, one to domelight negative side.

1) i am supposed to be reading 12 volts with all doors closed but im not. it is always grounded.i have replaced to door pin switches but still nothing

2) with doors shut, i am reading 0 volts but infinity ohms, with doors open it is a solid ground.  does anybody know whats going on?

If you are referring to an 86 Monte Carlo then you will not see +12 if your dome light bulb is removed. The +12V you are supposed to be reading is from the filament in the dome light. If you see nothing on the wire, then ground when the door opens you are on the correct wir

Thank you soooo much man. i really appreciate it. i have been so frustrated with this door switch and it was so easy all along. as soon as i read this i went to auto zone and grabbed a dome light and it works perfect. thank you very much86 monte carlo, viper 3000 -- posted image.

So if the domelight bulb burns out your doors are no longer protected?
