ok i finally got the tach learning to work by hooking up the engine sense wire to the white wire behind the instrument panel
but still after pressing the start button on the key fob it          takes 5 minutes for the engine to finally crank and start then dies after about 5 seconds...
i am still confused by the forums as some say that i have passlock 1 and some say i have passlock II the vehicle is a 2000 GMC Sierra 2500 with the 6.0l V8 4WD QuadCab Loaded with all the options except onstar.
i currently have the 556L bypass wired for the passlock I and it learns the resistance code by the flashes of the led
the compustar controller seems to think its working, as it doesnt flash the lights or siren at me to indicate an error, but still takes 5 minutes to power the yellow starter wire.

after surfing through more forums it appears my truck is a passlock II vehicle,. so i rewired my 556L bypass to the passlock II specs and did the 10 minute timeout no start reset, and now the vehicle will not even crank over by the key,...
does this mean it is a passlock I truck?
and if so i am still stuck on why it wont start immediately after the fuel pump kicks off

when i hooked up my bypass 556L ,..
i used the ORANGE / black wire as the group to the 556L ,..then cut the yellow wire and hooked that up to the 556L yellow to key side and BLACK / YELLOW to body side...
the passlock tutorial says that the orange and black wire is the central data wire,...should i be using that as ground?

orange black is the passlock ground, your truck has passlock II guaranteed.

To confirm the above post it's Passlock II.
NOT passlock I.
If you get lock out. Turn the key to ignition and let it sit for 30 minutes. It will reset itself.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.2000 GMC Sierra Compustar - Page 2 -- posted image.

ok since i have passlock II confirmed by 3 people,...i went out to the garage and verified the wires on my 556L
on 556L     on truck
black       ORANGE / black
pink        pink
blue        black (on compustar unit (status output(-)))
red        red
yellow      key side of yellow wire
blk/yllw    BCM side of yellow wire
i turned the ignition on for 30 minutes as suggested to clear the no start condition
now my truck wont start with the key, the red light on the 556L stays on and of course will not with the compustar as before,...i cant learn the resistance code because the truck wont start,..
im getting terribly frustrated at this point that i am making no headway any more help you guys have will be greatly appreciated

I would suggest removing the bypass ie wire your yellow passlock wire back together. Personaly my goal would be to get the truck running with the key and then move to remote start. I realize you have the 556L already but I would consider trying trying something less invasive as in cutting wires for the tie. The gmbp, pljx are very good choices.

i understand now that the gmbp is the better way to go,...but from what i have been reading the 556L is widely used and my application seems correct,..i am wondering if i have done something wrong in the install.

i do not want to tear what i have done out and take it to an electronics shop but that may be the result soon...

i am just confused as to when i have the remote start start the truck without the bypass in it takes 5 minutes to engage the starter,...and why my 556L wont work on passlockII hookups

now forgoing the bypass,...shouldnt the compustar at least try to crank the engine over if i have all of the main wires for the remote start hooked up correctly? and not wait 5 minutes?  i could understand my bypass being bad,...but shouldnt it at least power up the yellow starter wire right after the fuel pump is done pumping? i have the tach learning done,..and the ignition wires all hooked up correctly according to multiple posts,..unless theres some input in the compustar that needs to be triggered for it to start
